INTRODUCTION

 

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India has been providing service to the Indian industry for more than five decades by way of formulation of national standards and operation of product certification scheme.

BIS is operating Quality Management Systems Certification Scheme as per IS/ISO 9001 standard. The scheme was launched in 1991 covering a wide range of industry as well as service sectors including  engineering, chemicals, pharmaceutical, cement, ceramics, food, textiles, automotives, mechanical, metallurgical, electrical, electronics, aeronautics, hospitals,  financial,  banking services, construction, wholesale & retail trade, education & training, hotel, power, printing, telecommunications, testing laboratories and information technology.
